Southern Broken-Dash (Wallengrenia otho)

Very similar to Northern Broken-Dash, Southern Broken-Dash is more common in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain of North Carolina and can be identified by the rufous-brown color of fresh individuals.

With wear, the color of Southern Broken-Dash becomes darker brown, making worn individuals extremely difficult to separate from Northern Broken-Dash. The individual at left is fairly worn -- you can see the fringing on the wings is not intact.
