Dun Skipper (Euphyes vestris)

Dun Skipper (Euphyes vestris)

Fairly common and found throughout North Carolina, Dun Skippers are mostly as plain brown as the name suggests, but have a golden head when fresh.

One of the confusing "witches", Dun Skipper is very similar to the Little Glassywing, which is usually a little darker, more strongly marked, and often has a pale area just below the antennal clubs. Unfortunately, Little Glassywing also has a golden tint to the head when fresh.

Surry Co., NC 5/16/10.

Dun Skipper (Euphyes vestris)

This is an unusually well-marked individual. Or is it a Little Glassywing?
