| Perhaps better recognized as a full species (Viburnum recognitum Fernald), this is a rare to occasional shrub that grows along rivers and in wetlands. It is similar to the slightly more common Southern Arrowwood (V. d. var. dentatum), but has smooth leaves. Both are similar to the much more common Downy Arrowwood (V. rafinesquianum), but have broader, more coarsely toothed leaves and longer petioles. Wake Co., NC 5/23/2009.
