| Red Hickory is similar to Pignut Hickory (Carya glabra), but the leaves usually have 7 leaflets instead of 5, may be pubescent beneath instead of glabrous, and the petioles are red instead of green. Red Hickory was formerly lumped with Pignut Hickory by some authors, but they really are quite distinct. Greensboro, NC 5/15/10.
