Sand Laurel Oak is a common large semi-evergreen tree of dry, sandy areas in the Coastal Plain. It is very similar to Laurel Oak Q. laurifolia, which occurs in wetter habitats, tends to have tufts of hairs in the vein axils on the leaf undersides, and has more rounded leaf tips, lacking a bristle tip.
