Scarlet Toothcup (Ammannia coccinea)

Ammannia coccinea Rottböll (Lythraceae) is generally uncommon in wet areas in North Carolina, but when the lake level drops at Jordan Lake, creating extensive mudflats, Ammannia may form extensive stands, covering many acres of exposed mud.
