Common Green Darner (Anax junius)

Common throughout North Carolina, Common Green Darner is easy to recognize by its large size and bright colors. Both sexes have a green thorax, but males have a light blue abdomen, while females have a green abdomen.

A common resident, but even more abundant during fall and spring, when good numbers migrate through NC.

Brunswick Co., NC 8/26/06.
