Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix)
Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) Our most common venemous snake, Copperhead occurs throughout North Carolina. The snake stretched out above is the biggest one I've ever seen, well over 2 feet long. I photographed it in the Croatan National Forest, Craven Co., NC 9/6/03. It made it safely across the road.
