American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)

American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)

Our largest reptile, the American Alligator reaches its northern limit in the northeastern Coastal Plain of North Carolina. Fairly common in the southeastern corner of the state, they can grow up to 16 feet in length. This small individual is an added water hazard at one of the numerous golf course ponds in Brunswick County.
