Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus)

Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus)

Two species of oyster mushroom are common on rotting logs in North Carolina, Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus cystidiosus. They are both good to eat. Note that Oyster Mushrooms grow from rotting logs, not from the ground. The one at left appears to be growing from a rotting Tuliptree (Liriodendron tulipifera) log.
